Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc., (AMA) is seeking to hire a Science Lead for the DEVELOP National Program. This position is located at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA .

Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc., (AMA) is seeking to hire a Science Lead for the DEVELOP National Program. This position is located at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA and supports project management efforts across DEVELOP's national locations through the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract. DEVELOP, part of NASA's Earth Action to Science Program, addresses environmental and public policy issues through interdisciplinary research projects that apply the lens of NASA Earth observations to community concerns around the globe. AMA provides DEVELOP locations direct science support and science and technical coordination.


The Science Lead will manage DEVELOP's program-wide project portfolio (from proposal through execution and hand-off of deliverables), publications, and virtual activities, as well as engage with partners and assist with communication and coordination from initial contact through the hand-off. They will also supervise the Fellow class and work with them to ensure professional growth and successful project execution. The Science Lead will support and engage in the interview and selection process for Senior Fellow, Fellow, Lead, and participant positions. The Science Lead will also ensure the NASA DEVELOP Program projects align with those of NASA's Earth Science to Action Program, support DEVELOP's international and interagency efforts, plan and organize project presentation activities to deliver research results at diverse forums, support participation in relevant conferences, and communicate information about DEVELOP to NASA's Earth Science to Action and Capacity Building Programs. The Science Lead will also ensure that DEVELOP deliverables receive official approval through the NASA Export Review System before the information is released. Occasional travel is required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the Earth Sciences (eg: Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science, etc.), Life Sciences (eg: Biology, Ecology, etc.), or Social Sciences (eg: Geography, etc.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience designing, conducting, and coordinating applied research projects that utilize satellite imagery and geospatial data in the field of Earth and environmental sciences
  • Ability to manage multiple small teams to effectively conduct scientific research projects and demonstrate meaningful results
  • Experience working with multiple state and local governments, industry, and academia
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse team members or in multidiscipline collaborations

Preferred Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working with the NASA DEVELOP Program in positions of increased responsibility
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail; strong oral and written communication abilities as demonstrated by editing, proofreading, and writing skills; and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Experience coordinating among peers and management in both face-to-face and virtual environments
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team-oriented and an aptitude for coordination
  • Experience speaking in front of large audiences, both in-person and virtually
  • Resilient and good under pressure
  • Experience in programming and/or scripting in open-source applications for geospatial analysis
  • Proficiency in operating Microsoft Office Suite, Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Engine, with programming skills in Python, R, and Javascript

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to facility requirements.
