Purpose: Oversee the Customer Service and Waste Approvals programs at Crystal-Clean's Ohio TSDF as well as other waste approvals needs throughout the organization.

Duties of the position: Oversee all aspects of Waste Approvals process including data entry, approval of waste streams, regulatory research and interpretation, development of Waste Approvals policies and procedures, and administrative supervisory tasks. Additionally, this position will oversee the Customer Service department and its interaction with the waste approvals functions. The position will be responsible for ensuring safe, compliant and efficient waste approval process. This position will also provide day to day support to the Company by providing guidance on many regulatory issues spanning the waste, permit conditions, state/federal regulations.

Essential Duties:

  • Designs and manages the development of Waste Approvals policies and procedures and program,
  • Trains Customer Service staff to explain and answers regulatory questions from generators, HCC sales representatives regarding waste characterization and aspects of RCRA and DOT as they relate to waste streams,
  • Works with Treatment Specialists and facility management to ensure waste can be compliantly, safely and profitability processed,
  • Provides assistance to other EHS managers when Waste Approvals input is required in developing company policies, procedures or programs,
  • Interface with internal and external customers and regulators regarding HCC operations and various issues related to HCC services
  • Identifies and addresses potential compliance issues
  • Establishes short- and long-term goals and targets to improve Waste Approvals performance,
  • Develops metrics to track waste approval efficiency,
  • Works with TSD facilities to help streamline HCC operations,
  • Responsible for administrational supervision of the Customer Service and Waste Approvals staff

Core Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations relating to solid waste, hazardous waste, and used oil, both federal regulations and state counterparts
  • Ability to create Waste Approvals procedures and policies
  • Ability to work consistently and professionally under pressure
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
  • Ability to perform most of the tasks of the Environmental Scientist
  • Present a positive image of Heritage-Crystal Clean to fellow employees, external contacts, and the general public

Work Experience

  • 5-10 years of professional experience in waste approvals
  • Strong working knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulations
  • Previous environmental project management or supervisory experience

Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience

Specific Skills

  • Treatment chemistry
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Use of iPhone required
  • Technical writing

Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors or outdoors and may be required to sit/stand for long periods. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, and walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. This position will be required to travel by car or air to other HCC locations or vendors regularly. Personal Protective Equipment will be required for specific situations while in the field.
